Local
animal shelters are always looking for new volunteers who would like to help make a
positive difference in their city and change the future of an adoptable pet
that needs a new home.
YOU can
help save lives! Whether you can dedicate just a few hours each month to walk
and play with a dog or comfort a cat, help potential adopters find the perfect
pet, or would like to help us with special events, gathering donations of
supplies and helping to raise awareness to the needs of companion animals in
our city. No help is too small and all volunteer opportunities are very
flexible.
For
those that love animals, volunteering may be an option to consider, especially if
you can't or don't yet have pets. You may be unsure if volunteering with
animals is a good option. If you have been toying with the idea, there are
several reasons it may be a wonderful decision.
Even
if you’re not a dog and a cat person, chances are that you’re at least a fan of
one or the other. It's difficult to not find some dogs or cats as being cute.
Being around adorable animals can make you feel happier and put you in a better
mood. Besides, if you don't have the time and ability to take care of an animal
at home, here is your chance to at least spend a little time with them.
Volunteering
with animals is a great opportunity to give back to the community. Have you
thought, at any point, how you can put some good out into the world for all
that you've received? Spending some time with animals that don't yet have a
forever home is a great way to go about doing that.
When
you volunteer with animals, you already have two things in common with the
people you meet…a giving attitude and a love of animals. Out of all the times
I've volunteered with an animal organization, I've noticed that when people are
around adorable animals, they are even better to be around because you usually
can't help but be happy.
There
are many types of volunteering positions, from keeping animals company,
ensuring the animals have good living conditions to helping the organization
get records organized. Each time, you are almost guaranteed to learn at least one
piece of information that you never knew before. If you have pets, or are
planning on getting one, what you learn while volunteering can help you with
them as well.
Volunteering with animals is a great time as long as you don't
let the occasional poop or pee mishaps, from one of your new four legged
friends, get to you. The animals are wonderful to be around, you're doing a
great service and you spend a few hours with great people. While volunteering
is work, you’ll probably never actually felt like that's what you’re doing
while volunteering.
